Narcissist’s Downfall

1. They overestimate their control, believing they can outsmart everyone, but patterns of deceit and inconsistency slowly expose them over time. 2. They burn bridges through manipulation and disrespect, not realizing that the very people they discard or hurt are the same ones they will eventually need. 3. They refuse accountability, which stops growth completely, causing them to repeat the same destructive behaviors until their life becomes a cycle of chaos. 4. They chase validation instead of building substance, creating a fragile identity that eventually collapses when admiration fades or people stop feeding their ego. 5. They destroy genuine relationships, choosing control over connection, and end up surrounded by people who either fear them, use them, or eventually leave. 6. They underestimate people they hurt, assuming silence means weakness, not realizing those same people are healing, growing, and moving on without them. 7. They create false realities, avoiding truth for comfort, until real consequences catch up and force them to face the damage they spent years denying. Psalm 119:33-72 CSB [33] Teach me, LORD, the meaning of your statutes, and I will always keep them. [34] Help me understand your instruction, and I will obey it and follow it with all my heart. [35] Help me stay on the path of your commands, for I take pleasure in it. [36] Turn my heart to your decrees and not to dishonest profit. [37] Turn my eyes from looking at what is worthless; give me life in your ways. [38] Confirm what you said to your servant, for it produces reverence for you. [39] Turn away the disgrace I dread; indeed, your judgments are good. [40] How I long for your precepts! Give me life through your righteousness. [41] Let your faithful love come to me, LORD, your salvation, as you promised. [42] Then I can answer the one who taunts me, for I trust in your word. [43] Never take the word of truth from my mouth, for I hope in your judgments. [44] I will always obey your instruction, forever and ever. [45] I will walk freely in an open place because I study your precepts. [46] I will speak of your decrees before kings and not be ashamed. [47] I delight in your commands, which I love. [48] I will lift up my hands to your commands, which I love, and will meditate on your statutes. [49] Remember your word to your servant; you have given me hope through it. [50] This is my comfort in my affliction: Your promise has given me life. [51] The arrogant constantly ridicule me, but I do not turn away from your instruction. [52] LORD, I remember your judgments from long ago and find comfort. [53] Rage seizes me because of the wicked who reject your instruction. [54] Your statutes are the theme of my song during my earthly life. [55] LORD, I remember your name in the night, and I obey your instruction. [56] This is my practice: I obey your precepts. [57] The LORD is my portion; I have promised to keep your words. [58] I have sought your favor with all my heart; be gracious to me according to your promise. [59] I thought about my ways and turned my steps back to your decrees. [60] I hurried, not hesitating to keep your commands. [61] Though the ropes of the wicked were wrapped around me, I did not forget your instruction. [62] I rise at midnight to thank you for your righteous judgments. [63] I am a friend to all who fear you, to those who keep your precepts. [64] LORD, the earth is filled with your faithful love; teach me your statutes. [65] LORD, you have treated your servant well, just as you promised. [66] Teach me good judgment and discernment, for I rely on your commands. [67] Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I keep your word. [68] You are good, and you do what is good; teach me your statutes. [69] The arrogant have smeared me with lies, but I obey your precepts with all my heart. [70] Their hearts are hard and insensitive, but I delight in your instruction. [71] It was good for me to be afflicted so that I could learn your statutes. [72] Instruction from your lips is better for me than thousands of gold and silver pieces.

Mount Disappointment

Mount Disappointment is an 800-metre peak in the Mount Disappointment State Forest in Victoria, Australia, located about 60 kilometres north of Melbourne.
December 1824, explorers Hamilton Hume and William Hovellclimbed the range during their overland expedition from New South Wales to Port Phillip Bay. They were the first white men to cross what is now Victoria, and the first white men in Australia to see the snow-capped peaks of the Australian Alps.
The expedition originated in a whimsical proposal by Sir Thomas Brisbane, then Governor of New South Wales. The Port Phillip district then, and for many years after, part of New South Wales, was unknown territory. In order to discover the character of the country, the Governor proposed that a party of convicts should be taken by water to the southern coast, and turned loose, to find their way overland to Sydney. If they succeeded, they were to obtain free pardon, and a land grant. To facilitate their chances of success, His Excellency thought it wise to put them in charge of an experienced bushman and he offered the leadership to Hamilton Hume, who declined it. But Hume’s love of adventure was stirred by the proposal, and he volunteered to lead an exploring party from his father’s station at Lake George, which is close to where the capital city of Australia is now located.
The journey was acrimonious and the party were not well equipped.  Just eight. The equipment consisted of two carts, drawn by four bullocks, and two horses; a spare horse, and spare bullock, a tent and some bullets for a gun and one blanket apiece.
Now if you have ever been to Canberra in winter you know what cold is.

The expedition had not been out ten days before the cart had to be left behind. With such a meagre outfit, it was certainly good bushcraft which enabled the party to travel a thousand miles, without the loss of a man or a hoof.

The entire journey from Lake George to Geelong and back took three months, crossing large strong rivers and tall mountain peaks covered in snow even during the hot Australian summer.

But Mount Disappointment nearly crushed their spirits. They hoped the summit would offer a sweeping view of the bay, but dense tree growth completely blocked their horizon—leading them to name it Mount Disappointment. The rugged, thickly timbered country severely tested the expedition team. During their struggle through the thick brush and fallen timber, Hume fell off a log and impaled his groin on a sharp stake.
Sometimes in God’s sovereignty. We need our Mount Disappointments. They bring us the blessings of brokenness.

"The Blessings of Brokenness" is helpful book by  Dr. Charles F. Stanley. The core message explores why God permits difficult, shattering seasons in our lives, reframing personal trauma, loss, and hardship not as a punishment, but as a deliberate process of spiritual maturity, renewal, and deep intimacy with God.
  • The Target of Brokenness: God uses suffering to break down our "self-life"—our stubborn desire for total independence, pride, and control over our own destiny.
  • The Potter's Wheel: Much like a potter reshaping flawed clay, God handles our shattered pieces to reassemble them into a new, spiritually mature vessel
  • Preparation for Ministry: True fruitfulness and the power to effectively comfort or disciple others are born directly out of our own seasons of pain.
Still, when you finally make your way up Mt Disappointment there is still a view; it mightn’t be the one you were looking for, but it is the view God has for you anyway.
