Godly leadership. Stephen Davey

The Bible doesn't hide the failures of its leaders. In 2 Samuel 2–4, Israel is torn apart by a civil war sparked by ambition and pride.

David has been anointed by God to be king, yet for years he rules only over Judah. Meanwhile, Abner, Saul's former commander, sets up Saul's son, Ish-bosheth, as a rival king. What follows is a tragic season of bloodshed, betrayal, and political maneuvering.

The contrast between David and Abner couldn't be clearer. David waits on God's timing; Abner manipulates circumstances for personal gain. David leads with patience; Abner schemes for power.

That same contrast exists today. Many pastors quietly serve with faithfulness and humility. But some high-profile Christian leaders seem more interested in influence and image than integrity. The church suffers when pride replaces purity and when ambition eclipses obedience.

This story from Israel's history reminds us of two timeless truths:

Godly patience promotes unity. When we trust God's plan, we don't have to push others aside to advance our own.

Godly leadership requires courage. True shepherds care more about faithfulness than fame.

Let's be people who wait on God, serve faithfully, and build unity instead of division.
