Walking with God
Walking with God by Dr. Franklin L. Kirksey
Someone observes, "Civilized man has learned how to fly, but he has lost the art of walking with God!" These are some things to keep in mind about walking with God.
Walking with God involves your adjustment to His Word. Genesis 5:21-24 reads, "Enoch lived sixty-five years, and begot Methuselah. After he begot Methuselah, Enoch walked with God three hundred years, and had sons and daughters. So all the days of Enoch were three hundred and sixty-five years. And Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him." At this pivotal time in his life Enoch made a major adjustment to God's Word. Jerry Vines explains, "God reached down in grace, and Enoch reached up to God in faith." Romans 10:17 reads, "So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God."
Walking with God involves your advancement in His way. Hebrew 11:5-6 reads, "By faith Enoch was taken away so that he did not see death, 'and was not found, because God had taken him'; for before he was taken he had this testimony, that he pleased God. But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him." Jesus is referred to as "the most persistent pedestrian in the Bible." Luke 2:52 reads, "And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men." At His baptism, the Father said, "You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased" (Luke 3:22b). George Whitefield explains, "Walking with God implies our making progress or advances in the divine life." He also exhorts, "Fear not being despised, or losing a little worldly honour. One sight of Jesus will make amends for all." "As for God His way is perfect. . ." (2 Samuel 22:31a).
Walking with God involves your achievement of His will. Jude 1:14-15 reads, "Now Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about these men also, saying, 'Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of His saints, to execute judgment on all, to convict all who are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have committed in an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him.'" W. H. Griffith Thomas comments, "Many people think that Enoch had a very delightful time of it, sitting on clouds and singing hymns all day! But we are told by Jude that he had a very severe time in testifying against ungodliness; and, therefore, I do not think that even Enoch had altogether a delightful experience." The apostates of Enoch's day are described in Jude 1:16-19. "He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God?" (Micah 6:8)
May you richly enjoy the blessings of walking with God!
