The Lampstand In The Tabernacle

Light.. I need to watch the news before I go to bed so I can wake up depressed. All the lights are off. But sometimes I hear a tap dripping. I haven’t turned it off properly. So, not wanting to wake Lorelle up, I fumble about down the hall way, running into things, knocking pictures off the wall, and finally running into the edge of the door. You’re laughing because you do that too! Its an obstacle course. I am sure its arranged by the Lord as a means to my sanctification.
Light is essential to the health of my shins
Numbers 8:1-4 The Lord spoke to Moses: 2 “Speak to Aaron and tell him: When you set up the lamps, the seven lamps are to give light in front of the lampstand.” 3 So Aaron did this; he set up its lamps [to give light]in front of the lampstand just as the Lord had commanded Moses. 4 This is the way the lampstand was made: it was a hammered work of gold, hammered from its base to its flower petals. The lampstand was made according to the pattern the Lord had shown Moses.
Exodus 25:31-40 And thou shalt make a candlestick of pure gold: of beaten work shall the candlestick be made: his shaft, and his branches, his bowls, his knops, and his flowers, shall be of the same. 32 And six branches shall come out of the sides of it; three branches of the candlestick out of the one side, and three branches of the candlestick out of the other side:

The Distinctiveness
It looks like a glorious flowering tree. A center stem with three branches each side, each stem had three groups of flowers etc. Buds speak of the potential of life Flowers speak of the beauty of life Almonds speak of the fruit of life. Rich abundant foliage. That’s what the lampstand is supposed to look like.
Many of the other things were wood covered with gold leaf. But the Lampstand was Hammered gold 1 gold bar is 40 lbs. $1.25 million dollars. 855 grams of gold. That’s a lot of money to come up with. God wants this symbol to be brilliant and glorious and wonderful 80 lbs of pure gold. Gold speaks of Deity and Purity of the Lord Jesus Christ. Hammered speaks of the sufferings of Christ for us. Through His divinity and through His Purity and through His sufferings, He does something for us.
Its so important that Aaron as high priest has to continually look after it to shine always.
Imagine the lampstand there in the Holy Place. The Lampstand is opposite table of shewbread, its on your left, as the priest enters the darkened holy place, while the golden table of shewbread is on the right. The lampstand shines in a very dark lightless place, but it is a Golden room, the Holy place. The walls are all of gold. The light reflects around the room.
The Light of the glorious tree is to continually shine on 12 loaves representing 12 tribes forever and ever.
God is that flowering tree the bearer of light. And thee recipients of the light are the 12 tribes. God is intent on telling Israel that God is with them and His light abounds around them and He enriches their lives with life giving light.
Humanity can mess up anything.
There is the story of the Bedouin and the bowl of dates. A Bedouin wakes in the middle of the night and gets the munchies. He knows he has a bowl of dates there somewhere. He lights a lamp and finds a date, and bites into it. And he discovers a worm! He spits out the piece and throws it outside. He takes another date from the bowl and discovers another worm. And Another one. And another one! He begins to think to himself "I’ll be through this entire bowl of dates without satisfying my hunger". So what does he do? He blows out the lamp and feasts in ignorance.
We can look to Him to overcome our own weakness stubbornness silliness and stupidity of humanity.
How does God handle giving light to people who don’t want to see.
He sends His Son as the Light.. John 1: 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
Jesus came to be our Light. To take over the work of being that light in the Holy place.
Imagine the Holy place.. dark no light.
John 1:9 That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world. 10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. 11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not. 12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: 13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
Darkness and Blindness are part of man’s spiritual problem. The Miracles of healing the blind was a message to show that God desires to have Light and to live in light.
John 9:1 And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth. 2 And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind? 3 Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him. 4 I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. 5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.
Isa 42:6 I the LORD have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles; 7 To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house.
The world offers us ideas and philosophies and motivational speakers. We need a Saviour to heal our spiritual blindness and provide the light that we need so we can live.
Jesus becomes the reality these symbols represent.
Man not only has a living soul but he is a living soul. The Bible says: “And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living soul” (Genesis 2:7). We must be careful not to confound that which is truly spiritual and that which is merely soulish or psychical. We have seen that the spirit of man is the sphere of activity where the Holy Spirit operates in regeneration. Just so is the soul the sphere of activity where Satan operates making his appeal to the affections and emotions of man.
Satan knows full well that he dominates the psychical or the soulish man. Therefore he does not care if a man goes to a church where the Spirit of God is not in evidence. He knows that his victim is a creature of emotions, and it matters not if the emotions are stirred to sentimentalism or even to tears, just so long as man’s spirit does not come in contact with God’s Holy Spirit. Personally, I believe that Satan would rather have man go to a modernistic church where there is false worship than he would have him go to a house of prostitution. The soul is the seat of the passions, the feelings, and the desires of man; and Satan is satisfied if he can master these. F. W. Grant has said that the soul is the seat of the affections, right or wrong, of love, hate, lusts, and even the appetites of the body.
Hamor said to Jacob, “The soul of my son Shechem longeth for your daughter” (Genesis 34:8). Of David and Jonathan it is written: “The soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul” (1 Samuel 18:1). These passages show the soul to be the seat of the affections. But as the soul loves, so it also hates. We read of those “that are hated of David’s soul” (2 Samuel 5:8).
It is in the soul where fleshly lusts, desires, and appetites arise:
Abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul (Peter 2:11).
As cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country (Proverbs 25:25).
It shall be even as when a hungry man dreameth, and behold, he eateth; but he awaketh, and his soul is empty; or as when a thirsty man dreameth, and behold, he drinketh; but he awaketh, and behold, he is faint, and his soul hath appetite (Isaiah 29:8).
The soul of man, that is, his affections and desires, are never directed Godward until after the spirit has become regenerated. Man can never love God nor the things of God until he is born from above. He may have a troubled conscience or be so stirred emotionally that he may weep bitterly, and still remain dead in trespasses and in sins. We do not feel that we are guilty of judging men when we state that some who have answered an altar call and shed tears never were born again. Man’s desires and affections are turned toward God when he realizes his sinful condition and God’s grace in salvation.
A. You Need The Light Of Christ For Conversion
2 Cor 4: 3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: 4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. 5 For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake. 6 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
John 8:12 Then Jesus spoke to them again: “I am the light of the world. Anyone who follows Me will never walk in the darkness but will have the light of life.”
Listen to how Paul describes conversion in Acts 26. Paul describes the words the Lord Jesus addressed to him at Paul’s conversion on the Damascus road: 17 I will rescue you from the people and from the Gentiles, to whom I now send you, 18 to open their eyes that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a share among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.’
It was Johnny Cash who popularized Hank Williams’ old gospel song.
I [g] wandered so aimless life filed with sin I [c] wouldn’t let my dear Saviour [g] in
Then Jesus came like a stranger in the night Praise the lord [d7] I saw the [g] light.
Chorus I saw the light I saw the light [c] no more darkness no more [g] night
Now Im so happy no sorrow in sight Praise the lord [d7] I saw the [g] light.
Just like a blind man I wandered along Worries and fears I claimed for my own
Then like the blind man that God gave back his sight Praise the lord I saw the light.
I was a fool to wander and astray Straight is the gate and narrow the way
Now I have traded the wrong for the right Praise the lord I saw the light.
Have you seen the light? Has the Lord Jesus taken away your spiritual blindness to understand the wonders of the gospel. Have you discovered that the Lord Jesus is real. That He loves you. That He can save you. That He can transform your life?
B. You Need The Light Of Christ For ContinuationWhen the Spirit of God illuminates the spirit of a man with divine light and life, that man begins to yield his affections and faculties to God.
The Virgin Mary said; “My soul doth magnify the Lord, And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour” (Luke 1:46, 47). She could not extol the Lord in her soul until she had recognized God in her spirit as her Saviour. The initial triumph is in the spirit when Jesus Christ is acknowledged as personal Saviour.
In that immortal classic of the Psalms, David says: “He restoreth my soul” (Psalm 23:3).
We need the Lord day by day to give us light. We need Him to restore our souls. To bring light where there is darkness.

Only God’s One’s Can Understand the Spiritual significance of God’s Word.
Numbers 4:5 Whenever the camp is about to move on, Aaron and his sons are to go in,
…. 9 “They are to take a blue cloth and cover the lampstand used for light, with its lamps, snuffers, and firepans, as well as its jars of oil by which they service it. 10 Then they must place it with all its utensils inside a covering made of manatee skin and put [them]on the carrying frame. … 15 “Aaron and his sons are to finish covering the holy objects and all their equipment whenever the camp is to move on. The Kohathites will come and carry them, but they are not to touch the holy objects or they will die.
1 Cor 2:12 Now we have not received the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, in order to know what has been freely given to us by God. 13 We also speak these things, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual things to spiritual people. 14 But the natural man does not welcome what comes from God’s Spirit, because it is foolishness to him; he is not able to know it since it is evaluated spiritually. 15 The spiritual person, however, can evaluate everything, yet he himself cannot be evaluated by anyone. 16 For: who has known the Lord’s mind, that he may instruct Him? But we have the mind of Christ.
C. You Need The Light Of Christ At The Consummation
The Lord turns the lights on and promises to leave them on forever
Rev 21: 22 And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it. 23 And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof. 24 And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it. 25 And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there.

D. You Need The Light Of Christ For Casting Light
The Other 6 Lamps recognize our role as being lights in the world
Rev 2:1 “To the angel of the church in Ephesus write: “The One who holds the seven stars in His right hand and who walks among the seven gold lampstands says:
The Lord Jesus walks among us as we shine the glory of the gospel to others.
Matthew 28: 18 “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
The Light of the world intends to reflect His light through our lives out to others.
As Christians we are to cast our light.
Matthew 5:14 14 “You are the light of the world. A city situated on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 No one lights a lamp and puts it under a basket, but rather on a lampstand, and it gives light for all who are in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before men, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.
We are to bear witness to the light of the world who can sort out people’s deepest problems.

As a church we are to cast light in our witness for Christ.
This week a terrible thing has occurred where a “Christian organization is publicly suing another Christian organization. I have told the people involved we would no longer be supporting them in any way whilst this horrible shameful action is publicly broadcast to those who do not know the Saviour.
Philippians 2: 14 Do everything without grumbling and arguing, 15 so that you may be blameless and pure, children of God who are faultless in a crooked and perverted generation, among whom you shine like stars in the world. 16 Hold firmly the message of life.
