Sent

The Sent One and the Sent Ones by Dr. Frankin L. Kirksey Years ago, a book titled Sent by Jesus written by D. B. Knox came to my front door unsolicited with no explanation. To this day I do not know the one who sent it. The word translated “sent” appears frequently in the Gospel of John. Here are two examples. When Jesus addressed His Father in His High Priestly prayer, “As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world” (John 17:18) and when He addressed His followers, as He issued the Great Commission, “Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you” (John 20:21b). Here are five points related to being sent ones. First, there is a Master. Someone explains, “The term ‘Master’ signifies authority, leadership, and guidance, and in the context of Jesus Christ, it encompasses His role as the ultimate teacher, leader, and Lord over the lives of believers.” All Christians are challenged daily to live in obedience and devotion to Jesus Christ, as Master. Second, there is a message. The message to proclaim is the gospel as it is expressed in 1 Corinthians 15:3-4, “For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures.” Third, there is a mission. J. Hudson Taylor, missionary to China, often said, “The Great Commission is not an option to consider, it is a command to obey.” The Great Commission is found in Matthew 28:18-20; Mark 16:15-16; Luke 24:47-49; John 20:21; and Acts 1:8. Fourth, there are the mobilized that are saved. Adrian Rogers explains, “Jesus’ final words spoken on Earth were His marching orders for His Church. No one is omitted from the Great Commission; it is an all-inclusive command, and the mandate is active today.” All believers are to be “ambassadors for Christ” (2 Corinthians 5:20). The saved ones are the sent ones. The sent ones are mobilized to make disciples and assist in the process of their maturity. Fifth, there are the multitudes that are lost. Joel 3:14 reads, “Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision! For the day of the Lord is near in the valley of decision.” It is important to give a gospel invitation and to call for a decision. Make certain you have believed on Jesus. In a message titled, “Sent, Went, Put,” Major W. Ian Thomas cites Acts 5:20, “Go stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life.” Thomas comments, “In other words, said the angel to the apostles, go where you’re sent, stay where you’re put, and give what you got.” Remember Jesus said, “As the Father has sent Me, I also send you” (John 20:21b). The sermon in a sentence is as follows: The mobilized are sent on a mission by the Master with a message to the multitudes. Dr. Franklin L. Kirksey, Author of Don’t Miss the Revival!
